Winds of War in the Maghreb

Distracted by personal stories and bawdy of our politicians have the impression that we give special attention to the winds of war that are shaking some African countries of the Mediterranean, those who are used to seeing on tourist brochures as a travel destination and they usually do not consider the type of government.
Because when we go on holiday we will not ask many questions: the agency offers attractive proposals and we sling in a Tunisian resort and the maximum bet to do some archaeological sites or immerse ourselves in the souks of the place to shop for rite.
villaggio turistico, souk
So by many is just that these days we learn of a serious malaise popular and one thinks " heck, last year I was there and did not I knew what I risked! "

E 'analysis difficult. The scheme
Ben Ali in Tunisia has now been overthrown by rebels, the head of state is fixed in Saudi Arabia and against him was issued an international arrest warrant by Interpol ... but how, until recently all silent, most people do not even know who it was Ben Ali, and suddenly becomes an excellent researcher. Same thing in
Egypt, where the population is turning against the regime of Mubarak and the streets are fighting a guerrilla war between citizens and police ... and to think, only yesterday, not out of spite to Mubarak, even in Italy has turned a blind eye to his alleged granddaughter Ruby.

But what weighs more, the two leaders Africans in difficulty, is the silence of the White House ... who attend the events without a word in defense for the "Friends " a few weeks ago ... because there is to say that with all their limitations, the Tunisian and Egyptian governments, while far away from democracy and despotic, were among the list of "good " for the West and in that of the "bad for ... the fundamentalists were practically regarded by European and American partners in the dialogue with moderate gains were much more rigid and, on the contrary, examples considered too "casual" in the tradition to their neighbors decidedly more intransigent toward openings to the West.

And the winds of war may not stop there: it is not from the possibility of propagation in Algeria, Morocco, Syria, Jordan E. .. Libya (mon Dieu ... what about the buddy Gaddafi? How do we turn away suddenly after having had "welcomed" guest?).

But politics has a chameleon-like consistency and can not take account of certain courtesies. They sent via
Ben Ali? They're putting pressure on Mubarak? Well then, are the oppressors and the bastards do not deserve more. Li tolerated because FCEVO comfortable.
How much hypocrisy in politics but there is ... perhaps the most authentic of politics is just hypocrisy.

Anyway ... all this talk to say that North African situation concerns us much closer than we think and that a development could bring radical changes in the equilibrium world.

Hope, silent and non-interventionist in Europe and USA, is that the desire for greater freedom of African peoples will lead to a change interpreted as generally positive.

And I hope, too, for those people and for us.

there is less talk and practice less of the bunga bunga ...
