[...] My shadow comes with me as we leave it all

do we leave it all behind [...] *

Glass half full ...
E 'dawn.
The sky is blue above Jozi.
The skyscrapers and the skyline kissed by the first rays of sun.
The mild winter continues. Sweet, gentle, magical. One hundred and seventy kilometers and is already
Pilanesberg for a dip in the wilderness.
Africa is in its essence. From skyscrapers to the nature
more boundless.
From highways to four lanes, land brick red, yellow scrub the delight of predators and victims of the cross.

... or half empty?
Tears of Shiraz. The glass just Winey. A South African wine
strong and gentle.
The cup becomes warm as a hug.
The sweet scent of vanilla.
All in an instant.
The warmth of the people and his extraordinary humanity.

numbers in my life

The curtain falls tonight and someone will rise to heaven her first World Cup. A strange
tournament full of surprises, deletions, excellent, a leveling down, stars that have shone and a considerable amount of work between statistics, graphics and tactical analysis.
put aside the statistics gathered, I know I will.
In a number of recursion is no truth.
There is a phenomenon. There is a explanations.
are often hidden even small intolerance that can not be deleted.
not just numbers lined up one after another.
If so, would not be necessary to interpret them, would be enough simply to collect them.
But this is not enough anymore.
This is not good enough anymore.

[...] A world begins Where the road ends
Watch me leave it all behind [...] * *

What a difference a day made

Indifferent South African

The countdown has begun.
few games, long days of waiting.
Leisure, shopping and a little 'out of boredom. A concert
"massive" lost nell'afa one night in Turin, a foregone conclusion from the semi-finals and a lot of indifference.
The indifference of South Africans who walk aimlessly for Braamfontein apparent.
The indifference of those who know that the World has already done twice: the first with the dropping of Bafana Bafana, the second with that of Ghana.
He expects the third, final, which turned off the spotlight on the rainbow country and return it to its anonymity football and its problems. Cultural differences and

Every four years, come together in a nation (or two) teams from every continent (or almost) to play football: 64 games to hand the cup in the hands of the best. A month
hell for those who do not like samples and honest pedatori, rocking a month for those who dream and a passion. Accomplice
the elimination of his national side to root for the alien: the nicest, strongest, the most similar to us.
logic the law of retaliation: those who never win in the gold ahead of you, never to cousins \u200b\u200bacross the Alps, never Kraut invading beaches of Romagna or the Anglo-Saxon of the perfidious Albion.
So it happens that you overthrow the clichés.
happens that Italians work more accurate and better than the Germans, the British fussy and pretentious French.
happens under the sky upside down.
The Southern Cross instead of the North Star.
The outlook change under this wonder cloudless blue.
Blue as I had never seen the sky.
the world ends in four days. In four years
again.
Different perspectives, different cultures. Kicking a ball. Different stars. Different skies.

Africa is still
It 's the 120 minutes of Uruguay-Ghana. Asamoah Gyan has a historic opportunity to drag the Ghana among the top four teams in the world.
A continent full stops and holds its breath. All in Jozi cheering Black Stars: waiters, policemen, taxi drivers, bartenders.
And on the day of the Uruguay-Ghana I visited the Apartheid Museum, the story of a terrible event took almost half century and not yet fully overcome.
So once again, football becomes a vehicle for social redemption, not only for Ghana but throughout Africa.
Another possibility for the continent with high potential for coming out to show that you can grow in spite of many difficulties exist.
Asamoah fails. The game goes to penalties and Ghana loses.
Africa and Ghana, leaving the World Cup.

Soweto *
begins on board a light green Mercedes 280 SE 1972 license plate sticker with South Africa but New Zealand, brown leather seats and bodywork in excellent condition, my day in Soweto. The township on the outskirts of Jozi, the scene of anti-apartheid riots, city district-a symbol of poverty and rebellion. There
accompanies a taxi driver who does not work on weekends and organize small round tour.
We are the only white people and are the main attraction. At the market, among people who look at us like we're all Martians stop to say hello, to ask how we are, whether we like South Africa and Jozi.
All the while my embarrassment grows so scary.
They are among the shanties of Soweto while the children run towards me, people talk to me and takes pictures.
through tiny lanes and I can not help but notice that everyone smiles as the music comes out of houses, women hanging laundry on long steel wires, people chatting and children playing.
An unforgettable. An extraordinary experience.
This is Africa and this is its people.
That's all that I carry inside forever.
A smile, a handshake.

* Soweto, an acronym for South Western Township

Compartments ponds
Winter is an Italian spring. A beautiful spring style eighties, in which March was crazy, sweet sleep in April and May was the month of roses.
If this is winter I want to subcontract to the latitudes of Turin.
Fresh dry, zero rain, and above all, a lightweight sweatshirt worn more for care than necessity.
all while spending their days sipping Shiraz in South Africa a few beers and a few safe areas of the mall.
glittering display cases, prices for tourists, fashionable restaurants and wide smiles.
pure fiction, while the rest of Joburg the reality is quite different.
Many people walk for no apparent reason. A lot of poverty.
And life goes on as the safe areas in a TV commercial.
We live in watertight compartments: climb into a taxi, go down, you enter a mall, you go out, take a taxi and go home.

Prices
As with any big event, prices tend to rise. The restaurants, however, are very honest. With 300 rand * you are eating meat or fish of high quality in a restaurant, sipping local wines (great discovery!) At well honest. With 25 rand
drink a beer bottle in the fashion district of Sandton. A liter of gasoline costs 8 rand and a few cents. A stamp costs 5 rand.
The Times costs 2 rand.
Then there is the downside. With 300 rand to be paid yearly school education of a child in elementary school.
rand * 100 = about 10 € (9 € for the accuracy and few cents)

Saudade
Just a few days now. Seem endless.
There are small moments of pleasure, those days are always the same change in perspective.
friends.
A beer drunk in Piazza Vittorio. A walk under the arcades of Via Po
A coffee bar. The expenditures by the friends of the fruit.
A hug given, before you leave, who really counts.
A kiss.
